Mr. Sitaram T Lagu, a qualified mining engineer founded ‘Lagu Bandhu Motiwale’ as a proprietary concern in 1934 with the help of representative from Mikimoto Co. of Japan. A unique identity has been groomed even since as specialists in studded jewellery made from Diamonds, Pearls & other Gemstones set in 22 Kt. & 18 Kt. Gold.

It was converted into partnership concern in 1977 and into a Pvt. Ltd. Company in 1989.

Mr. Shrikant Lagu & Mr. Madhav Lagu, the 2nd generation, looked after the growth in ‘70s & ‘80s. Now a third generation in the form of Mr. Dilip Lagu & Mr. Sarang Lagu are looking after Mumbai & Pune branches respectively aided by Mr. Prakash Lagu as well.

Already famous for over 70 years as ‘Pearl People’, the focus was shifted to ‘Diamonds’ since 1997. A big advertising campaign by De Beers around the same time helped boost the awareness for diamond jewellery during this period and helped the immense growth of Lagu Bandhu which enabled us to start a branch in PUNE as well. This shop was located in the residential bungalow initially and then was set up as a full-fledged showroom on the main thoroughfare of Karve Road in February 2003. It is now being expanded by annexing 1600 sft of additional floor space in March 2006.

Since 1999, efforts were also made to expand horizons to export market by taking part in various exhibitions in USA and Dubai. Branch office in USA was set up in 2003 and is being managed by Mrs. Swati Prabhu (Daughter of Mr. Shrikant Lagu).

In July 2004 an outlet was started at Gangapur Road, Nashik under franchisee agreement with Navratna Jewellers Pvt. Ltd.
